Is it true that doctors will not perform a vasectomy on a married man without his wife's permission?

Many ask for voluntary consent from the wife. Though it is not a requirement, and I know of no doctors who will refuse to perform a vasectomy without a wife's signature, the premise IS BEYOND OFFENSIVE, if for no other reason than the glaring double standard.
