Transferring video from digital camera to dvd... problem?

I have a Sony Cybershot Digital Camera, and want to transfer the videos I have shot with it on to DVD. The trouble is though that when I go to make a DVD of them, I am unable to do so as XP does not recognize the file format. They are all MPEG files so should work but I think there is an encoding issue. Any tips?
