I sold an electrical item on ebay that was tested and working in good order before being sent out?

it was sent to cechoslovakia and it when the buyer received it he said it wasnt working . i dont wanna give him a refund coz hes been ******* rude . do i have to give him a refund as it was ok when i sent it so shouldnt it be down to the courier people .
