Is 440c steel a good material for a 12 inch sword blade?

hi, i want to buy some high quality erfly swords for the martial art wing chun, and have seen some that interest me, they are made of heat Treated Drop Forged 440C Stainless Steel and the blade length is 12 inches. would these make a "functional blade", at the moment i would only use them for practising the bart cham dao form. but as i improve i would like to test some live cutting, for example cutting tatami targets, to test my cutting ability.
